this is a bit confusing Chels… you might want to think again about Holden as narrator and see if you can articulate one clear idea that reveals your opinion of him.

I am not a great journal keeper, but I have always tried to write on my birthday; over time it is really interesting to see what things have changed and what things have not. There was a time when I was about 21; it was my last semester in college, the VietNam war was on and I was not happy with my government; however, my life and the people in it seemed to be having a great time. I went to the bar where my friends and U hung out and they wouldn’t give me my legal free beer because for the past year, I had been using an assumed identity and getting beers! I don’t drink now at all, but it was fun to look back on those crazy college years.

it is really interesting to see how much you have already improved. Can you see it? The images here lack specificity and one is quite cliched. Since then, you have gotten better with each entry! Brava!

your fog image doesn’t work for me b/c I don’t usually think of toothpaste ozzing out of the tube without someone squeezing it. Several excellent black images.

I like this–I think the detail about the type of house and its color would work better at the beginning to help you set your tone…after the first sentence or so…There is somehting by Ray Bradbury I have to give you to read, it has this same scariness about it but it does not end quite so well…

I REALLY like most of this, in spite of the terrible pain it recalls. The details your observed are so detailed and particular. I did not like the part where you describe your tears, the images are cliche and since the rest is so clear and fresh, those images stick out in a way that doesn’t do justice to the rest.
